The Outlands Two thousand years ago, the mages of the Saedhthr discovered a land that existed outside of Tyndarik's reality. No method of entering into this world or leaving it was known. They could glimpse it using their scrying abilities and tools, see the resources there, but could not find a way to travel there. The Discovery: After 50 years of consolidated effort and with guidance of the Arch Mage Eldarion, the Aegis compass was created. This artifact was the culmination of the work of the most powerful mages in Tyndarik. It carried immense power, and when focused, it created a portal to this realm, henceforth known as the outlands. The Portal: Recognizing the potential of this new land, the leaders of Frostvorn, the Tyrborn, and the Saedhthr vowed that no matter the squabbles and disagreements between them, the Aegis portal was sacred and hallowed ground and would never be destroyed. Records of the decades after do not mention what happened to this portal, but rumors of an external forces invasion pointed towards the Aegis being destroyed. Purpose and Exploration: Now, despite a lack of leadership, the mages of the SaedHthr have recreated the work of those gone bfore them. The outlands and their resources are once more available to all of Tyndarik. Due to the volatile and ever-changing nature of its terrain, no permanent settlements are allowed, and protective magic (such as setting home and land claims) is disabled to ensure fair access to all adventurers. The factions of Tyndarik send their bravest and most skilled members to harvest rare materials, uncover ancient relics, and chart the uncharted territories of the Outlands. Mystical Significance: Many believe that the Outlands are a remnant of an ancient world, one that holds secrets of the gods and primal forces that shaped Tyndarik. Scholars and mages from the Issfaedd Clan and the SangLiberi are particularly interested in the arcane knowledge that might be hidden within its borders, hoping to unlock powers that could tip the balance of power in their favor. Conflict and Cooperation: While the Outlands are a place of great opportunity, they are also a source of tension. The promise of untold riches and ancient secrets has led to both cooperation and conflict among the factions. Alliances are formed and broken as groups vie for control over the most lucrative areas, but an unspoken truce often prevails to ensure mutual survival in this unpredictable land.
